There is very little spyware on Mac. There is one virus in the wild for Mac at this time, and only people who pirated two pieces of software are at risk.
If you insist on spending money on this then check out Norton.
It’s cheaper and easier to use a little smarts and configure your firewall correctly.
I use the free ClamXAv to scan periodically just to be safe.

and for AV get avg
or maybe find a ISP that has anti-virus/spyware software as standard. I’m with telewest and get AV / spyware removal / firewall/ pop up blocker etc included in my subscription

Is there a program that can do much more than scan, I mean remove the menacing spyware program? All these free softwares only scan, then prompt you to pay. The menacing crest that flashes on the taskbar is frustrating, I need to get it off totally. Someone out there please help!

Only Windows suffers from spyware it’s a unique Microsoft
Windows problem no Unix distro does HP/UX Free BSD OpenBSD NetBSD Mac OSX and neither by the way neither does BEOS or Plan 9 operating system.
Does Ubuntu require a firewall? Yes and it’s got one.
Antivirus software? on Linux? no.
